چکیده

Acoustic Emission (AE) was used to study the fracture of oxide grown on mild steel. Samples were oxidised and mechanically deformed in air at 550 OC using strain rates of -and lo-' s-' in a bend test furnace having a ceramic 4-point bend jig. The results were compared with earlier observations made on oxides deformed at room temperature. In both cases equidistant cracks formed and the crack spacing decreased with increasing oxide thickness in agreement with a model based on interfacial slip. The adhesive strength of the oxide was lower and delamination was more evident at the growth temperature. The critical strains for failure were determined and compared with model predictions. In this context the voidage of the oxide scale appeared to be the single most important parameter and a KIc -value of 1.1 MN m-3/2 was obtained for iron oxide up to 550 OC.

Effect of foliar spray of sodium nitroprusside (nitric oxide donor) on growth parameters, total chlorophyll content, iron content and antioxidant enzymes activity in cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) under iron deficiency stress

In this study, the effect of foliar spray of sodium nitroprusside (100 μM) as a nitric oxide donor on iron deficiency stress alleviation in cucumber plant was investigated. The results indicated that iron deficiency stress reduced growth parameters, total chlorophyll content, Fe content and antioxidant enzymes activity of catalase, ascorbate peroxidase as well as guaiacol peroxidase. Sodium nit...

In Situ Measurement of Growth Stress in Alumina Scale

n the early stages of growth has been measured in α-Al2O3 (alumina) scales formed on and NiAl-based alloys during heating in air at 1000 to 1200°C. Scale thickness rom 0.5 to 5 μm, times from 5 to 720 min. Stress was measured using the multiple-tilt . In order to measure the thinnest scales at the earliest times, focused, monochromatic tron radiation was used for high intensity, and a fixed, sm...

High Temperature Behavior of Dual Phase Steels

Dual phase steels with different martensite volume fraction and morphology were tensile tested at a temperature range of 25 to 5500C. Stress-strain curves of all steels showed serration flow at temperatures of 250 and 3500C, and smooth flow at the other temperatures. Both yield and ultimate tensile strengths increased with increasing testing temperature up to about 450<sup...

The effect of nano-iron oxide on growth, physiology, and callogenesis in pepper in vitro

The aim of this research was to study the effect of iron oxide nanoparticles (FeO NPs) on the growth, differentiation, anatomy, and physiology of pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) on the basis of a completely randomized design in vitro condition. Seedlings were cultured in MS medium containing four concentrations of FeO NPs (0, 1, 10, and 20 mgl-1). Also, the effect of the different concentrations of...

The Effect of Ferrite Grain Size on the Fatigue Behavior of Ferrite-martensite Dual-phase Steels

The effect of ferrite grain size on the fatigue and tensile properties of dual phase steels with a 0.25 volume fraction of martensite (Vm) under different heat treatments was investigated. The heat treatments were homogenized at 1200 oC along with several subsequent normalizations at 910 oC, resulting in different microstructures and mechanical properties. After heat treatment, the obtained ste...
